Mark Sherman

Wings and Feathers

Wings and Feathers

"Wings and Feathers" by Mark Sherman was featured in the "Master Pieces" Exhibit at The National Quilt Museum in 2014.

Mark says the little secret behind Wings and Feathers is that it was meant to convey butterfly kisses from him to his daughter, hence the butterflies flying all over the quilt top. Mark hand-dyed about 90% of the fabric in this quilt, and quilted it with a longarm machine, spending over 3,000 hours on the project in total.

Techniques Used: Turned Edge Machine Appliqué (artist own method), Machine Pieced, Longarm Quilted (original quilt designs), Machine Trapunto

Materials Used: All Hand Dyed Fabric, Shibori, and Hand Marbled Fabric including a single piece hand dyed shibori quilt back in colors to match the design on the front
