I used the traditional Winding Ways block and varied the colors to make the design appear to bloom out from the center.
I had the Winding Ways die for a project I made years ago. I wanted to use it again because it was just sitting there, but I didn't want to make the same usual quilt top. I wanted to color it differently, but I hadn't seen anything already done that was what I wanted, so I rolled my own design.
I quilted around the white circles to stabilize everything, made some flowers in the center and the corner "blooms," and some butterfly thingies around them, both in the white bow-tie shapes and the pink ones. Then I made a wrought iron fence design around the whole garden.
