Soome neighborhood quilting friends decided to learn how to make a "One Block Wonder," using 7 panels of a single design, then saving one back and creating hexagonal half-blocks with the remaining panels to place around the panel until it formed a pleasing design. I chose a panel that had a pretty vase with flowers, and this is how it ended up! Once I had it all on the design wall, the half-hexie "strips" were put together to form a "frame" around the panel, and then I had to applique the frame to the panel, and add pieces to "hide" the seams. Once it was finished, the quilt seemed to call for a little embellishment, so I added over 2,000 crystals to the flowers. and made a special binding for the points on the bottom border, adding beads to the points. I was proud of the finished product! It won a second-place ribbon in our Des Moines annual Quilt Show. On to the next new thing to learn!
