Road to California 2025 Artist Statement: "A photo I took of my grandson and two friends, captured childhood, friendship, laughter and a bit of mischief. Having recently been inspired by contemporary quilt artist, Bisa, this photo gave me the opportunity to experiment with her unique use of color, pattern and bold prints. This quilt also expresses my hope that children can grow up in a world where the color of their skin doesn't define them and and where girls feel empowered."
Houston International Quilt Festival 2023 Artist Statement: "Watch out boys; there's a powerful girl in the house! Besides working with the children's delightful faces in many different colors and fabrics, I experimented with using a single fabric in their clothing. I cut the fabric and rearranged it to give the effect of movement. The use of tulle for shading completed the overall effect."
