I made this quilt from lots of batik scraps. I stuck them all in a big bucket, and the next one I pulled out is the next piece I used. I chain pieced all 12 blocks at the same time. I only had a couple of rules. I used a log cabin format, I wouldn't put the same piece in a block right next to each other. And I included a thin black line once on all four sides of the block. I had a great time, and it was very freeing! This was pretty out of the box for me.
