The Epitome of Luxury
The Epitome of Luxury
"The Epitome of Luxury" by Karen Watts was featured as part of New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties exhibit
Artist Statement: "My inspiration came from a photo of my Grandparents, Ruth and Carroll Melke, sitting in a car in 1927. The inscription on the back noted that the car was an Imperial 80. When I looked up info about the car it was obvious that Chrysler was very proud of this car! I decided to create my quilt as an advertising poster and used the clamshell block to design an art deco background. The photo shows my Grandmother at the wheel and this was not simply a pose. She did all the driving in the family!"
