Spinning Out Spinning In 4: Rose of Sharon

by Helen Remick

Seattle, Washington, USA

Techniques: Machine and paper pieced, hand-appliquéd, hand-couched, machine quilted

Design Source: Rose of Sharon; Islamic geometric decagonal design

This quilt was made for a National Quilt Museum contest in 2007. A few years earlier I went to Paris

and was inspired by spiral staircases and books from the Institut du Monde Arabe. This quilt, the

fourth in a series, combines them by placing spirals in an Islamic 10-sided geometric figure. The

machine quilting is done in writing, information from Wikipedia about the mathematics of spirals

and the mathematician Fibonacci.
