Scraps and Satin
Scraps and Satin
I was visiting my brother in SD while he recovered from shoulder surgery and had plenty of time for quilting. My mother taught me "Wastenot, Want not" and the crazy blocks are made from scraps left from other quilts. I laid those blocks out on a bed, moving them around until I was happy with the layout, then filled in the spaces with pieces of satin, again moving and shifting things as I went. No pattern, just total improv fun. The quilting is a combination of ruler work and freemotion, with each area's quilting pattern made up as I went. I love the way satin looks when it is quilted. It can be tricky to work with, but my freeform method allows for play and a deeper seam allowance helps. This is one of my favorite quilts so far.
