Sashiko Meditation
Sashiko Meditation
This quilt started in a 2020 National Quilt Museum Quilt Along, but ended up featuring my collection of Sashiko blocks
I began the 2020 National Quilt Museum Quilt Along as a distraction during the Covid summer of 2020. I enjoy paper piecing and the center block was intriguing. I decided to use my collection of Japanese indigo fabrics as well as some commercial prints Japanese style. By the time I finished the basic quilt I wanted it to be bigger and decided to add blocks from a Sashiko panel I had purchased. For about 6 weeks I worked on the 25 hand embroidered blocks which provided some necessary contemplative hand work to my evenings. I finally added them as a wide border of floral motifs and Japanese crests in variegated Sashiko thread.
