"Rose's Roaring Fans" by Laura L. Pomes won First Place in the New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties contest
Artist Statement: "The traditional block "Grandmother's Fan" was chosen to honor my grandmother Rose. "Rose's Roaring Fans" celebrates the Art Deco style and Rose's life growing up in the 1920s. Her flare for fashion with cloche hats, bobbed haircuts and drop-waisted dresses made her stand out in every photograph. The addition of hand appliquéd circles is a tribute to my mother Pearl who lovingly taught me how to sew."
