"Rainbow Nouveau" by Margaret Solomon Gunn won First Place, AQS Lancaster 2013 - Bed Quilts, Machine Quilted.

Fabulous machine quilting, piecing, and applique can be found in Rainbow Nouveau by Margaret Solomon Gunn, winner of First Place, AQS Lancaster - Bed Quilts, Machine Quilted.

Artist Statement (From Margaret's website, mainelyquiltsoflove.com): "This quilt is made from commercial batiks and hand-dyes. It is an original design, utilizing traditional feathered star blocks and whimsically designed applique. The quilting utilizes a number of creative fills including pebbling, feathering, parallel lines, curved cross-hatching, and others. It combines structured feather forms with more free-form background fillers. The quilted vine-work placed in the gray setting triangles has been outline painted with a gold acrylic paint. Some of the photos were taken prior to painting. The quilt has a piped binding that varies in color every 6-8″. I used one layer of Hobbs polydown batting with a layer of Tuscany wool on the top of that. The thread used on topside is predominantly Filtec's Glide 40wt polyester. The bobbin is Superior Bottomline. The quilting is dense, and took approximately 125 hours. Within a month of completing, this quilt has taken two Best of Show awards. This quilt was sold in 2020."
