Racing Stripes
"Racing Stripes" by Kelly Spell won the MQG Award of Excellence at QuiltCon 2026.
Artist Statement: "My goal for this quilt was to create the illusion of motion using hand-dyed, color-to-color gradations. To achieve that effect, I used liquid Procion MX dyes in three hues: hot pink and wasabi to match the two rings, and forest green to match the background fabric. The gradations fade across the stripes as the rings race toward each other."
Techniques Used: Machine Pieced, Machine Quilted on a Frame (Longarm), Fabric Hand-Dyed by the Artist
Materials Used: Hand-Dyed Cotton Fabric, Batting, Thread
