Pushing Boundaries

Pushing Boundaries

"Pushing Boundaries" by Becky Goldsmith was created when she ran out of things to sew.

What Becky wanted to accomplish with this quilt, and wants to revisit in a future one, is the idea that when you make a vine design it normally is carried seamlessly from panel to panel but for this quilt the vines would not meet up perfectly and create an off-kilter look. This fractured nature allowed the quilt to be created square by square instead of having a need to focus on the center.

As Becky puts it, "In Pushing Boundaries, I 'pushed' the edges of blocks and messed with the continuous flow of the appliquéd vines. The blocks are square-ish and wonky, the applique intentionally does not meet up exactly from block-to-block."
