Positively Paisley

Positively Paisley

The Paisley shapes were constructed from several of Paula Nadelstern's fabrics then appliqued onto the pieced background

I wanted to use some of Paula Nadelstern's fabrics, along with two other fabrics that I'd been saving for quite awhile. The paisleys were machine appliqued, with turned edges, using a small straight stitch, in layers, fussy-cutting my fabrics as I went along, until I was happy with them. Four of the paisleys are the same (in the center) but the rest are all individually different. I arranged and re-arranged many times before it looked right, using the background and border that I had already pieced together as my base. When I was happy with the arrangement, I glued everything down with "Glue-Baste-It" and machine appliqued everything together, using Philippa Naylor's method of straight-stitching close to the folded edges that I mentioned above. I free-motion quilted it on my Millie long-arm, using Glide and Bottom Line and Hobbs 80/20.
