Orogeny
Orogeny
"Orogeny" by Vicki Conley is named for the process by which mountains are formed.
Orogeny isn't based on any kind of National Park, but it is based on how a lot of rock formations that you see in the parks are built with layering and uplift. To create it, Vicki made strip sets like a traditional quilter would and then cut them, put some uplift from the bottom, cut it again, made more strip sets, and then built it like she envisioned the rock formations were built. The name is representative of the steps it took Vicki to create the quilt and how mountains are created themselves, as orogeny means "a process in which a section of the earth's crust is folded and deformed by lateral compression to form a mountain range."
