"My Little Enchanted Compass" by Cristina Arcenegui Bono won First Place in the 1st Entry category at AQS Quiltweek 2017
Cristina Arcenegui Bono of Alcal√• de Guadaira, Spain, created this 39" x 39" jewel of a quilt. My Little Enchanted Compass was quilted on a movable machine using free-motion quilting, thread painting, and a lot of concentration. Her source was: "Forét Enchantée - Carnet de Coloriage & Promenade Fantastique (French Edition) by Johanna Basford.
After discovering coloring books for adults, Cristina decided that that would be her thing and she would convert these illustrations into quilts. After seeing Johanna's designs, she knew that she wanted to adapt them, but found it a challenge at first because the pictures were meant to be colored, not quilted. To get around this, Cristina micro-quilted her quilt so that people could see the figures and shapes stand out.
