"My Favorite Things" by Hiroko Miyama and Masanobu Miyama won Outstanding Original Design at Road to California 2026.
Artist Statement: "Momo's favorite things became a quilt. A caterpillar of the Great Purple Emperor, Moo-chan, on her palm, butterflies on Sumire, Yuri running to Momo, and Ponta staring at her hand are also her favorites, as well as mushrooms, beetles, and other insects. The patterns on her clothes are made with appliqué. The insects and mushrooms are made with punchneedle appliqué. Butterflies are original embroidery, and it took 90 hours including data creation."
My Favorite Things by Hiroko Miyama and Masanobu Miyama won Second Place - Wall Quilt: Quilter's Choice (Sponsored by Elna USA) at AQS QuiltWeek - Paducah 2025. The subject of the quilt is Hiroko's granddaughter, and the title comes from the fact that the quilt features all of her granddaughter's favorite things. Such things include caterpillars, butterflies, mushrooms, and Hiroko's three dogs, who are also stars of the quilt. My Favorite Things also contains Hiroko's first use of needle punch in one of her competition quilts, which she used to create the three-dimensional effects on the mushrooms and beetles. The quilt also took home awards for Best Wall Quilt at AQS QuiltWeek - Branson 2025 and an Honorable Mention in the Wall Quilts: Fiber Art / Mixed Media at AQS QuiltWeek - Daytona Beach 2025.
