Muttons, Buttons, & Pearls, Oh My!

Artist Statement: "I saw an antique woven coverlet on the internet and knew I could interpret that into a quilt. I ordered some lovely hand dyed cotton fabrics to start. I was about a month into making the quilt when my darling cat, Coconut, threw up on it. I tried my best to rinse and wash it all out but to no avail. I HAD to start over. As I was about to order more fabric for the quilt, I started second guessing the colors I had originally chosen. I went back to the original photo of the woven coverlet and realized that the colors in the coverlet were slightly paler than what I had chosen. I ordered all new fabrics in all new colors. By the time I finished this quilt, I realized that Coconut was obviously trying to tell me that I was not using the correct colors and throwing up on it was the only way she could tell me that I needed to start over! it became my second Best of Show at the AQS Paducah show and now lives happily in The National Quilt Museum. Thanks, Coconut!"

Fun Fact: "I looked for white fabric that was not too transparent so the colors underneath would not show through. I found a feather-proof fabric that is used for feather pillows, so the feathers don't poke through, which worked great."
