Carol's "Modified Nine Patch" was made for the America Quilter's Society over twenty years ago in 2005. AQS asked Carol to make something in a nine-patch field and she ran with it, imbuing it with her sashiko style. It features a combination of traditional designs, for example, the rabbit is designed like a family crest motif, while some of the other designs have had their colors changed to work better in the style. Carol wanted to work with the image, over the image, and around the image, utilizing solid and variegated threads to create unique designs. This quilt in particular taught Carol to never throw away a small piece of scrap that you think you might need for later because, as it turns out, you will need that piece.
