"Mod Mountains" by Suzy Williams won Third Place - Handwork at QuiltCon 2016.
Artist Statement: "Mod Mountains is a graphic interpretation of the Rocky Mountains. Woven cottons, plaids and solid fabrics were chosen to represent the classic mountaineer. The use of negative space causes the viewer to step back and see the quilt as a whole composition. However, the detailed hand-stitching brings the viewer back for a closer look at the subtly and texture achieved. Likewise, seeing the mountains from a distance is wonderful, but after one walks the trails and sees the textures and details of nature, the mountains come into clearer focus giving a deeper appreciation for their beauty."
