Memphis History: Sun Studio, Memphis
Memphis History: Sun Studio, Memphis
My Sun Studio quilt was designed to honor Memphis,Tennessee's music history.
Three years ago, a local quilter organized an annual quilt show for the Cotton Museum in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. The theme of that quilt show, which is held at the Cotton Museum of Memphis, was "Quilting Memphis History". Memphis' Sun Studio is a recording studio which was opened by rock-and-roll pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950. The Sun record label played a role in Elvis Presley's early singing career, as well as many others.
Many well-known musicians' names are written in thread. The raw-edged appliquéd guitar, microphone, trumpet, record and music notes are from permission-free designs. The appliqué is raw-edge, and all of the quilting was done on my domestic Bernina sewing machine.
