Lighthouse Placemat

Lighthouse Placemat - Who doesn't like to see the lighthouse light shining on the ocean at night? I really enjoy exploring and reading of the histories of the various lighthouses in the U.S. It all started on my first trip to Florida in 1998, since then I am entranced. So why make placemats? Well a friend had just moved into a new home and we were invited to the open house. Problem #1, her husband told my husband about it, and you know the rest of the story.... I finally got the word when she and I were having a casual conversation 3 days prior to the event. I frantically racked my brain for some idea that would be quick and yet nice to present for a house warming gift. Thus the invention of my own pattern for the lighthouse placemats. I used fusible web for applique technique. Then machine quilted the design. The light streaks coming from the lighthouse were the rest of the quilting process.
