Katy and Howard
Katy and Howard
My piece is called "Howard and Katy". The subject came about from two different ideas. One was an inspiration from artwork by a Canadian Artist - Angela Morgan. The other from a casual conversation with my International Partner. The name is derived from the town that my Partner lives in - Katy and well, Howard is just a typical Duck name! This conversation was about red shoes and how I believe that "every girl should own a pair of red shoes"..... Doesn't matter what they are ..... just red shoes. I grew up on a farm and my husband and I just sold our farm that we had owned for 17 years, where our Children grew up. Also knowing that my Partner is an avid animal lover, I thought that the subject was appropriate for both of us. My Partner and I both agreed to do art quilts and my idea was that it was to be solely fabric (no other medium). I used mainly Batik fabrics to achieve shading and colour. The quilting was done to represent the chicken wire in a chicken coop - although I have a Duck - and that both Katy and Howard are behind the wire fence.
