Island Cottage Retreat - This quilt was made for the Wiregrass Quilter's Guild 2009 Landscape Challenge. We were given two fat quarters and had to use both fabrics in a 30" by 30" quilt that included at least one house. I chose a little cottage at Epworth-By-The-Sea on St. Simons Island, where our guild has a retreat every January, as the house for my quilt. I drew the house using pictures I had taken of it. I composed my original setting for the cottage from other pictures I had taken, including one of the bridge connecting the St. Simons to the mainland and others of trees from both the island and from the neighborhood where my daughter lives in Bakersfield, CA. Other elements of the landscape came from my imagination.
