This vibrant whole-cloth, hand-painted quilt was juried into AQS Paducah in 2018.
This 104"x104" quilt started as a single piece of white fabric. The design was inspired by my time living in Hawaii, which continues to be my muse today. I admire traditional Hawaiian appliqué quilts, and sought to replicate that style. Once all of the "blocks" and center area were designed, I transferred the designs to my big piece of white fabric, which I then quilted on my longarm. Once quilting was finished came the most time-consuming phase- hand painting the whole-cloth, using Inktense pencils, Jacquard colorless extender, with some PearlEx powdered pigment (for shimmer). The painting took about ten months. In all, the quilt took about one and a half years to complete.
