"In the midnight garden" by Caroline Nixon won The Excellence in Thread Mastery Overlay Award at Festival of Quilts 22.
Festival of Quilts Judge's Statement: "This thoughtful and sympathetic piece uses a combination of stitch and fabric to evoke the idea of leaves returning to the earth. Stitch has been used creatively to enhance the background design, giving natural texture to the journey of the leaf. The threads used compliment the overall design and the choice of stitch in the border draws the whole together. Subtle background stitching helps to create a feeling of calm. The stitching is well thought out and well executed."
