Gemstone Splash was made with 9" blocks on point, 35 of which are adaptations of the blooming nine-patch. All other blocks are orginal. Josephine designed the quilt on computer long before she started the quilt, When she began she forgot the size intended and made 12" blocks. It was only after she had all the original blocks finished that she recognized her mistake. Realizing the difficulty of making nine patches with a 12" size, she was thinking she was getting too old to create her own quilts. That night a dream told her something else. She dreamt she was driving a red convertable, came to a sheer drop-off and couldn't stop, but the car sort of floated down and Jo could keep it upright and landed smoothly. Then she drove through the trees to a clearing. Waking up she realized the red convertable was her quilting. It was her passion. And she could still figure out a way to steer through all the difficulties and mistakes. She just cut the blocks down to 9" and gave the scrops to a friend who made purses out of them. The quilt was raffled in 2014 to raise funds for the SSND African Province
