We had a block exchange in our guild. Everybody started with 12 inch squares. I wanted to be different.
This was a block exchange. We all started with 12 in squares. I didn't want squares so I searched the internet for New York Beauty blocks and Flying geese in circles. I used store bought fabric and fabric I hand dyed and matched the background of each block for the circular rings. I dreamed of rays as the background. I made the background first and quilted that. I then appliqués the circles on and then quilted them. One of the background fabrics fell off the shelf at the quilt store and insisted it had to be in this quilt. Then as I was interviewing fabrics, it again fell off the cutting table. So of course I let it be front and center. This was so fun to make the paperpieced units and fit them to their counterpart. I am so thrilled with the finished piece. 1 of a kind. My favorite I have made. No pattern for placement.
