Fray It Ain't So
"Fray It Ain't So" by Nora Bauser won Second Place in the Windham Artisan Cottons Fabric Challenge at QuiltCon 2026.
Artist Statement: "This quilt plays with the unique beauty of shot cotton, where two different thread colors are interwoven to create a third, shifting hue. 2" fabric circles were frayed down to a 1" square at its center, revealing the full spectrum of each fabric. Playing with which fabric color was in the background the effect is one of overlapping diamonds."
Techniques Used: Machine Pieced, Machine Appliqué, Machine Quilted without a Frame (Domestic); The warp/weft edges of the fabrics were frayed to bring out the different colors.
Materials Used: Cotton Fabric, Cotton/Poly Batting
