Flying Log Cabin

Flying Log Cabin

"Flying Log Cabin" by Darlene Talukder won Best Hand Workmanship - Modern at PIQF 2019.

Artist Statement: "I worked with strips from narrowest to widest in a rough log cabin. Leftovers from earlier quilts were used as-is. The striped fabric became focal elements and the two balanced "kites" remind me of Miro's interpretation of Mid-Century mobiles. The skinny strips of striped fabric are outreached arms balancing the kites. The quilt was made from my daughter's jeans, thrift store "britches" and similar weight stash fabric. The wavy hand quilted lines accentuate movement."
