Flight of the Bumblebee, Dance of the Flower

Flight of the Bumblebee, Dance of the Flower

Flight of the Bumblebee, Dance of the Flower - This quilt is based on a photograph I took in the early 1970's of a flower in my husband's grandmother's flower garden. As I was focusing on the flower, a bumblebee flew by causing me to jerk the camera and accidentally take a picture. That resulted in the large flower being in focus with the ground showing as a swirled arc following with direction the camera had moved as the picture was taken. I used applique techniques in Wendy Butler Burns' Photo Album Quilts, applique and embellishment techniques in Margie Engel's Bodacious Applique, and an appli-piecing technique I learned in a class from Sue Turnquist to make the quilt.
