Feathered Sisters

Feathered Sisters

This is the second of a series of 60 degree quilts I've been making that were inspired by the Feathered Star block.

I've been designing 60 degree quilt patterns for a number of years. Around 6 years ago I wondered if the Feathered Star block could be made with 6 units instead of 8. I made a practice block and liked the results so started designing quilts using the many different blocks I drafted on 60 degree graph paper. The fabric used in this quilt is Moda "The Flower Farm" by Bunny Hill Designs. The background pieces were cut first and placed on a design wall. Then the stars were made one at a time using oversized piecing techniques and a 60 degree ruler of my own design. The assembly is done in rows so there are no y-seams, making it much easier to make than the traditional Feathered Star block. The units measure 6" on the sides.
