Exploding Stars

Exploding Stars

This stunning medallion quilt was created using the maker's original method of design she calls the zoom method.

This is Josephine's second zoom quilt. This time she enlarged the nine center blocks to create the rest of the quilt which produced unity and pleasing repetition or rhythm. A few minor changes in the pattern simplified intricate detail and formed a circle or halo drawing focus to the center. The outside edges of the outer blocks were also modified with added slant lines to allow white pieces that would better blend with the white border. This outer border with curved and straight line hand quilting is a major attraction close up.
