Echoes
Echoes
"Echoes" is the third quilt Cyndi has made for a book by her friend Donna DeSoto. The book features landmarks of the Washington DC metro area, which is where Cyndi lives. Cyndi asked Donna if there was anything from the area that she wanted done as a quilt that hadn't been claimed, and Donna told her that the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum had not be done yet. This was serendipitous for Cyndi, as one of her early commissions was for the widow of the Deputy Director of the Hirshhorn Museum, Stephen E. Weil. The widow provided Cyndi with over 140 of his daily bow ties for that commission, and she used the leftover ones for her quilt of the Hirshhorn Museum, featuring them in the windows. For Cyndi, the "echoes" of the title come from the fact that for her, by using his ties in a quilt of the museum, the Deputy Director now walks the hallways once again.
