Deco Rose #1

Deco Rose #1

Celebrating the 1920's Art Deco era award winning wall hanging packs a lot of jazz in a small piece.

Inspired by artwork of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (Scottish architect and artist lived 1868-1928), I translated one of his roses into this smal wall hanging. It has a three dimensional rose bloom. The black is one piece of fabric with reverse appliqué to reveal the color squares and background areas. I used 1/4" hexagons instead of the circles of Charles's artwork. I am known for using hexagons a lot. Originally, I just signed it for a quick exchange between two guilds in our area. However, I miss read the size requirements and it was too small. I continue to create this piece to be displayed in our guilds quilt show the last weekend of February 2020 which was themed "The Roaring 20s". There is a tiny red flange at the binding that measures 1/8" wide. The full size of this quilt is 7 1/2" x 17 1/4". I entered it in the 2022 Franklin County Fair in Hilliard, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus) and won a 2nd prize ribbon.

P.S. because I called this Deco Rose #1, I felt compelled to make a Deco Rose #2 which I am currently working on. It is the same size and will have the hexies, dimensional roses, and the 1/8" flange to tie them together as a series.
