Circle Play

Circle Play

"Circle Play" by Jennifer Candon won Second Place - Modern Traditionalism at QuiltCon 2025.

Artist Statement: "Creating primary and secondary shapes is central to the modern quilting aesthetic. In this contemporary interpretation of a traditional orange peel design, I explore why viewers "see" one shape versus another - a circle or a four petal flower. What role do color, value, line and shape placement play in how viewers' eyes track and interpret subject matter? What other cultural biases influence how we "read" a work of art?"
