Choosing Life

Choosing Life

I am an currently in my 1st ovarian cancer recurrence. During remission I was profoundly inspired to create this quilt.

I signed up for Maria Shell's, "Circles and Curves" online class in March, 2021. I had only attended two other improv classes in my life, thankfully taught by master and quilt icon, Gwen Marston. It was then that the bug bit me. But I lacked the courage to continue creating improv quilts on my own. Maria's class catapulted me back into this approach while I was lucky enough to experience an 8-month remission from ovarian cancer. I fell in love with quarter circles and braided curves; this is the quilt that wanted to be created. I call this quilt, Choosing Life, as that is what the design and quilting process affirmed for me. I continue to create both traditional and improv quilts when I feel good enough to do so during my new round of treatment. Quilting is life-saving and soul nourishing for me.
