Challenge

I made this quilt as a challenge to myself and to honor the memory of my mother.

hand-appliquéd, embellished and embroidered

Prize: Second Place, Art-Abstract, Large

In this quilt, the words challenge, chance, change, courage, and Chizuru, which is the name of my

mother, are spelled out. As the viewer moves from side to side, the image changes when viewed from

different angles. I recall that my mother always challenged herself to see the world in new ways, so

I made this quilt as a challenge to myself and to honor the memory of my mother.
