Cam's 60th Birthday Quilt

Cam's 60th Birthday Quilt

Double-sided, quilt-as-you-go. Batiks in cool colours on front. Red, black and white footy quilt on the back.

Quilt made for my brother, Cam's 60th birthday.

The front uses 'stack and slash' technique with blue toned batiks for the blocks. The blocks were quilted with black and white print fat quarters as the backing.

The sashing is aqua/blue on the front, and quilted with plain red backing.

The intersections of the sashing are dark aqua batik, backed with fussy-cut St Kilda football club badge motifs (Australian rules football).

The borders are a batik in blue and purple colours, backed with red with an abbreviated version of the St. Kilda club song machine appliquéd, . The cornerstones are dark aqua, backed with another fussy cut club badge motif framed in red, white and black.

All these elements were then joined using black strips (QAYG technique).

, I typed the lyrics in a computer word processing program, and chose a font, then enlarged it to an appropriate size for my border width and printed it. This was my pattern for tracing onto fusible webbing, and also for the layout when I fused the letters on the border strips. I machine appliquéd the fused letters using my machine's blanket stitch.
