Cactus Flower
Cactus Flower
"Cactus Flower" by Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry was inspired by a flowering barrel cactus.
Artist Statement: "In the January of 2020, we spent a week in Tucson, AZ and visited the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum, where we took hundreds of photos. The inspiration for this quilt came from a flowering barrel cactus. Using a digital editing program, I changed all of the colors in the original photograph and then painted the individual elements in the photograph using the touchscreen of my Microsoft Surface Design Studio computer. The final image and matching binding strips were printed on cotton fabric by Spoonflower.com.
The surface is heavily quilted with dozens of hues blending the colors of the petals. The background is quilted in a meander pattern."
