An Angel Watching Over Ewe
An Angel Watching Over Ewe
"An Angel Watching Over Ewe" by Janet Stone won the Marie White Masterpiece Award at Road to California 2023.
Artist Statement (Road to California 2023): "Inspired by antique Frakturs, the name of the background alphabet fabric in the center is "Lexington", which is where my mom was born, Lexington, Missouri. The entire quilt was designed around that fabric, and the alphabet, of course. This quilt is dedicated to her, and the thought of her watching over me."
Janet had this to say about her quilt, "It is called An Angel Watching Over Ewe. The background alphabet fabric in the center is called Lexington. My mom was born in Lexington, Missouri and I think of my mom as the angel watching over me. The motifs were inspired my antique Pennsylvania or German Fracturs. The Siamese cat is our late Siamese cat named Siamese. Machine quilted on a Babylock sewing machine. There are vintage dorset buttons from Czecoslovokia and some hand covered buttons I created. The angel was inspired by tombstones from the 1800's. It's about 70" x 89". Plus, it is number 23 in her alphabet series.
