Alpha"baa"t Sampler

Artist Statement: "I went to an AQS show in Des Moines, Iowa in 2008 and there were only about 12 quilts entered in the 'Innovative Bed Quilt' category. I didn't care for the winners and thought, "I could do better than that!" I had seen a technique to make rounded corners by piecing an open circle overlay onto a different color fabric, and then cutting into fourths. That gave me the idea to make sheep with curved edges for their bodies using that technique. All the quilting was done free motion. I felt very brave with the quilting for this one, but since there were different motifs in each block, I didn't have to duplicate any design more than once. This was the first quilt in the series where I featured sheep. I had such a fun time creating them that I put sheep in all but 4 of the rest of the quilts in the series."

Fun Fact: "I used little letter beads to spell out around the border, ALPHABAAT SAMPLER JANET STONE OVERLAND PARK KS YOU TAKE FOURTEEN SHEEP AND WHAT DO YOU GET ANOTHER QUILT CREATED WITH THE ALPHABET 2009."
