Aging On is Sherri's favorite quilt. It signifies the colorful, lively years of her kids contrasted with the somber aging of her parents. The quilt has a lot of meaning to Sherri, but it still is not without its own playful secrets. The skinny strip of fabric in the middle of the quilt dividing the colorful side and the black-and-white side is where Sherri cleaned her brushes, making sure that nothing goes to waste and that she uses everything that she can.
Sherri says of the quilt, "I like to work extemporaneously and in the abstract. Bright colors, geometry, and asymmetry excite me. The simple line of a geometric shape, the blast of a colorful line, or the contrast of black against white makes my canvas sing. After a visit with my aging parents, I began to reflect on the serendipity of life and death, youth and aging. Life prevails over death, just as youth prevails over aging. I represent this as youth, and the colorful years fade to grey."
