African Crazy Play by Ann Horton received the Quilt Path by APQS Judge's Recognition Award at AQS Quiltweek Paducah 2023
Artist Statement: "My African textile stash seemed right for crazy patchwork. Layers of applique, hand quilting and embroidered inserts called for borders of playful plants and lion cubs."
From AQS: "At AQS QuiltWeek - Paducah, each judge selects a special quilt that speaks to them in some way. This year, AQS Judge Cindy Seitz-Krug selected AFRICAN CRAZY PLAY by Ann Horton to receive the Quilt Path by APQS Judge's Recognition Award.
Cindy selected Ann's quilt for her colored fabric choices and their placement. She felt they were exceptionally well handled. The combination of circular and irregular shapes makes the quilt visually intriguing while the variety in scale creates wonderful unity. The hand stitching in each shape gives the piece fabulous texture. The composition of the quilt is finished off beautifully with the golden side and top borders."
