Great Great Grandmother McKay

1816 Quilt

1816 Quilt

1816 Quilt - Made in 1816 by a great great grandmother of mine. It is a large quilt - sesigned when the bed was the center of the home, so they were made large to come down to the floor and hide the trundles and/or pallet beds stored underneath. This quilt has faded in some areas but is remarkably well-preserved. I have workd with margo Drager of Reproductionfabrics.com in Bozeman. MT to find authentic reproduction fabrics for that time. The sashing is still bright green, but the small check was originally green and beige, but the colors leached out. The pinks and other colors are still bright. There is some fabric breakage on the fold lines, but still magnificent.
