I wanted to make a large piece of fabric art to hang as a 'wall' behind some fridges at the entrance to our new kitchen.  I also wanted to try making a large piece of fabric art on my Longarm, \u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eHaving made one full Kaleidoscope circle, I made a half circle then played around with the offcuts to make the small third shape.  I quilted each of the Kaleidoscope pieces on the Longarm, adding extra batting to achieve a trapunto effect.  \u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003eTo complete the work I placed radiating strips of fabric from the full Kaleidoscope circle onto a backing piece of fabric, then wove other strips of fabric around the circle to emulate light emanating from the colourful Kaleidoscope.   Finally the Kaleidoscope pieces were appliquéd onto the background effects.  Time spent on the Longarm was 8 hours. The borders provided a place to be creative and make the quilt unique or use up the leftover stratas.  I added some appliques of birds using some of the same fabrics.  The quilting provided areas to try a variety of stitched patterns in different colors of threads.
