Red Letter Daze
"Janet Stone: And Now I Know My ABCs!" Exhibit Statement: "This quilt was inspired by an antique Quaker cross stitch sampler I had stitched. I drew the layout on graph paper and because of the way I wanted the layout to be, with the blocks on point, I decided it would be easier to make the blocks separately and then appliqué them onto the background. I didn't quilt them separately, the entire quilt was assembled and then quilted. When it came to the outer scroll border and the letters, I used the same free motion embroidery technique I had used for my second quilt, "Alpha Block Celebration". Hotfix crystals, embellishments, and couched metallic cords were used."
Original Artist Statement: "Red Letter Daze - This quilt was inspired by antique Quaker cross stitch samplers. The letters and scroll designs were all free motion embroidered. Lots of crystals, beads, and gold filigree pieces adorn the quilt. (I just love a few sparkly things!) I finally won a REAL Best in Show at MQX East this year with this quilt!"
Fun Fact: "This quilt was awarded the Masterpiece Quilt Award in 2012 by The National Quilt Association."
